We moved my mom to Austin this past weekend. We got her setup in an independent living apartment for seniors. It was time. There’s a lot more to this story, but I’m not going to be emotionally vulnerable and pour my heart out about that here and now.
She is definitely in her golden year(s). I hope they’re years. Losing your parents is hard. Seeing your parents decline is hard. If there’s one thing that’s gotten me through life thus far, it’s my sense of humor. I am making myself find the humor in this season of my relationship with my mom.
She slept in her new apartment by herself on Monday night. On Tuesday morning she made herself breakfast.
She had bread, so she made toast. She didn’t have jam or jelly, so she put vanilla cake icing on her toast. That was breakfast on Tuesday.
